What it is

Your licence, translated so the whole world can read it.

An International Driver's Permit is the official companion to your Nigerian licence. It carries your details in the languages that rental firms and traffic authorities abroad accept, so nobody at the counter has to squint at a card they have never seen before.

Plenty of travellers only find out they needed one when the car-hire clerk in Dubai or Toronto turns them away. We take the paperwork off your plate, run it through the right channel, and hand you a permit that holds up when you present it. Your Nigerian licence still does the real work. The permit just makes it legible to people who do not know our system.

What you get when Otrac handles it instead of chasing it yourself.

The right channel

We submit through the recognised issuing body, with your FRSC-registered licence sitting behind it, so the permit stands up when an officer checks it.

No markup on the fee

You pay our flat processing fee and the official fee at cost. What government charges is what you pay, and we show you the split before anything moves.

Days, not weeks

Send your documents and most permits move within a few working days. We tell you where yours stands rather than leaving you refreshing a portal.

FAQ

The permit, answered.

What exactly is an International Driver's Permit?
It is an official translation of your Nigerian licence that lets rental firms, police and border officers abroad read your credentials in a form they recognise. It sits on top of your licence and is issued in line with the road-traffic conventions many countries honour.
Do I need a valid Nigerian driver's licence first?
Yes. The IDP is only valid alongside a current Nigerian licence, never on its own. If your licence has expired or you have never held one, we sort that first through our licence service, then the permit.
Who issues the permit and is Otrac official?
The permit is issued through the recognised issuing body in Nigeria, with the FRSC-registered licence behind it. Otrac is not the issuer. We handle your paperwork, submit it correctly and pass the official fee through at cost.
How long is the permit valid and how fast can I get it?
The permit typically runs for one year from issue. Turnaround depends on how quickly you send your documents, but most applications move within a few working days once we have everything we need.
What does it cost?
Our processing fee is a flat 49,900 naira, and the official fee is added at cost with no markup. Send us a message and we confirm the full figure before you pay anything.
